Jim Abegglen
Jimmy "Jim" Abegglen passed away peacefully on Jan. 2, 2008 in his home after a two year battle with cancer.
Jim was born on June 11, 1939 in Vernal to Larry Abegglen and Peggy Thompson Abegglen. He was active in baseball, football, basketball and many other school activities and organizations while attending Uintah High School, College of Eastern Utah and Utah State University.
While living in Salt Lake City, Jim was employed in the grocery business. He returned to Vernal in 1979 where he worked in the real estate and appraisal industries. Jim continued a life of service both in the community and in his church. He served on the Vernal City Council for 13 years and Uintah County Commission for four years in addition to serving on various state and local boards. As a member of the LDS church, he served in many callings including scout master, high council and bishop for six and one-half years.
Jim volunteered many seasons coaching youth basketball and baseball teams. Jim was an avid gardener, enjoyed painting, photography, and playing the piano. He was an incredible story teller and ruthless prankster. His numerous talents and a witty sense of humor, were admired and enjoyed by his family and friends.
Jim was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather made famous to his grandchildren for his "Indian magic." He will be profoundly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by wife, Jill; children, Darian Abegglen, Jori Cook (Steve), Jimmy Abegglen (Cara), Ryan Remington (Sheri), John Abegglen, Jennifer Yoder (Ed); brother, Ron Abegglen; sister, Lana Arnold (Larry); step-mother, Ardith Atwood (Garth); stepbrothers and stepsister, Valerie Dinkle (Brad), Brad McClellan (Carol), Gary McClellan (Linda), Jeff McClellan (Chris), Clark McClellan (Robin); 16 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by parents and brother, Ricky.
The family thanks all the doctors, nurses and friends for their compassionate service during the course of Jim's illness.
