Clay was born in Las Vegas, Nevada to the late William and late Pearl (Gaston) Kendrick. He graduated from Rancho High School in 1994. Clay worked various jobs before finding the job he loved, where he worked for twenty one years.

Alongside his late brother, Aaron Butler, Clay began working as a campus monitor at Desert Pines High School. He was a true jag at heart and loved everything about his school, from the staff to his students.

He showed tough love and because of that he became the dad, uncle, big brother, coach, counselor, cheerleader to anyone that came through those halls. Twenty one years later, he could tell you what year any student graduated, knew their parents, siblings and eventually even their kids.

Clay took his talents to Lied Middle School, where he established the same positive relationships and even shaved his head in honor of the St. Baldrick's Foundation for children's cancer.

He was also a big brother and uncle to many dancers in the Las Vegas dance community because of his niece Lenai. Clay loved to cook, loved to sing, loved to make people laugh and he loved his 49ers. More than anything else, he loved to coach. He coached football, softball, basketball, and one year, even cheerleading. Coaching was a strong passion of his and he pushed every athlete to achieve their highest potential.

Preceding Clay in death are William and Pearl Kendrick and his older brother, Aaron Butler. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his older loving sister Ledah, his nephews Vladimir and Franqui Butler, Christopher and Brendan Debouck and his niece Lenai Debouck.

He also leaves behind several aunts and uncles, a host of cousins, god sisters and brothers, god children, and the countless others whose lives he has touched.
