THE LATE, MRS. ESTELLA SMITH

A Beloved Resident Whose Death is Deeply Mourned in the Community.

Surely in the midst of life we are in death and again of this fact are we reminded by the most sad and sudden passing of a deeply beloved resident of Sidney, Mrs. Estella Smith, the highly esteemed wife of Mr. Albert W. Smith, at the home of the family on River street at an early hour of Thursday morning, April 17th, due to an attack of heart trouble.
On Wednesday evening, surrounded by her little home circle of loved ones, Mrs. Smith, busy and cheerful as always still enjoyed perfect good health, bright and contented but alas how little we know what even one hour may bring forth to us. The little family gathering of Wednesday evening had every reason to look forward to more bright days in their companionship but at dawn joy had turned to deep sorrow leaving all hearts to mourn.
Mrs. Smith ran the journey of her useful life in the compass of seventy-three years, a faithful, devoted wife and fond mother. To her surviving husband, her companion adoring 54 years of happy married life, this sudden blow bears with cruel, trenchant force and to him and to all loved ones is directed the heartfelt sympathy of an entire community.
Through this gloom there still reflects a beam of sunshine which turns our tears to promise for the future. Through the veiled mist that now gathers, her God hath set the bow of His glorious promise and in His compassion He leaves his children not alone in the presence of the Unknown.
Mrs. Smith was an active and enthusiastic member of the Women's Relief Corps and a consistent member of the Congregational Church and her presence will be greatly missed, as well as in our social circles. She has gone before and now awaits the reunion above where there shall be no parting.
Surviving in the immediate family are her husband, Mr. Albert W. Smith and two daughters, Mrs. Marshall Oberg, of Chicago, Ill., and Mrs. Clarence E. Bird, of Sidney, N.Y.; two grandchildren, William A. Palmer, of Madison, Wis., and Miss Florence Stilwell, of Chicago, Ill., also one sister, Mrs. Edw. McGown, of Greene, N.Y.
Funeral services will be held at the family home on River street, at 2 o'clock, Sunday afternoon, April 20th.
