Geraldine Trostel, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away March 17, 2022 in Arlington. She was 97 years old.
Mrs. Trostel was preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years, Ralph Trostel, along with her sons, Ted and Tim Trostel. Geraldine's three brothers also preceded her in death - R.M. McMillan, Newman McMillan, and Roy McMillan. Gerry is survived by her children and their spouses: Tom and Martha Jo Trostel; Phyllis and John Thielman; and Kelli Trostel, widow of Ted. She is also survived by her brother in law, David Trostel, and wife, Billye; and sisters in law, Virginia Drake, Billie McMillan, and Jody McMillan.
Geraldine was born in Bonham, TX on March 13, 1925. Growing up with three brothers, she developed a deep love of sports, especially baseball. As a teenager she played girls softball. Gerry followed the major league baseball career of her younger brother, Roy McMillan, with great pride. His 17 years as a shortstop, winning three Golden Gloves made summers exciting for all. When the Texas Rangers came to Arlington, she joined the Texas Rangers Woman's Club and volunteered with the team into her 90's.
Geraldine met the love her life, Ralph Trostel, while he was training to be a pilot for WWII in Bonham, Texas. "I'd never known anyone from Indiana," she said. They married on March 11, 1944 upon his graduation from flight school. After the war he made a career of the US Air Force, and they traveled to many bases in the US and even to Japan during his 20 years of service. It was a busy life with four children, but Gerry started her college education going to night classes wherever they were stationed.
The family moved to Arlington in 1963 and Geraldine completed her degree at Arlington State College (UTA). She went on to earn her Master's Degree while teaching English at Lamar High School from 1970-1990.
Gerry enjoyed ADK teachers sorority and traveled with her "sisters" to many conventions.
She was an active member of Northwest Christian Church for more than 55 years where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School.
Of the various roles she held, her priority was her husband and her children. She also doted on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her grandchildren and their spouses: Matt and Lynn Trostel; Blake and Christine Calhoun; Kim and Jared Richardson; Adrienne and Brad Loper; Jason Pettit; Zac and Gina Trostel; Riley and Katherine Trostel; Kirby Trostel; Julia and Jarrod Denmark; Caroline and Donald Claxton. Geraldine also had 22 great-grandchildren. She was a blessing to this world and will be greatly missed.
The family would like to acknowledge: Brookdale Pecan Park, Sunrise Home Healthcare and Community Hospice of Texas for their loving, compassionate care of Gerry these last few months.
A celebration of Geraldine Trostel's life will take place Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 2:00pm at First United Methodist Church, Arlington, TX.
