Roland Adair Benson Jr., age 93, passed away on Friday, April 8, 2022.

Roland was born on February 1, 1929, in Augusta, GA. He was the son of the late Roland Sr. and Nellie Benson. He graduated from North Augusta High School in South Carolina in 1946, then he attended Academy of Richmond County Community College. He proudly served our country as a member of the Navy during the Korean War on the USS Boyd.

Roland had a long and varied working career. His first job was helping his father set up and operate Ideal Restaurant in Daytona Beach, FL. Following that, he worked at Smith Brothers Restaurant Supply in Augusta, GA. His focused career was that of a salesman in the equipment and trucking industry. He first worked for Morgan Truck and Tractor in Augusta, GA. He then moved to the Atlanta area, where he worked at Brooker Truck Equipment Company, Highway Equipment Company, Road Machinery Company, and then he ended his career with Fontaine Truck Equipment Company.

Roland lived in Augusta, GA, Daytona Beach, FL, Dunwoody, GA, and Lawrenceville, GA before recently becoming a resident of Arbor Terrace Hamilton Mill, Dacula, GA where he was a beloved member of this community. All who knew Roland treasured his friendship and were guaranteed to always receive one of his big smiles. He was a devoted husband and father, andhe loved his family dearly and was always eager to impart wisdom to make their lives easier and better.

Roland was a member for many years at Trinity on the Hill Methodist Church, Augusta, GA, Dunwoody United Methodist Church, Dunwoody, GA and then Norcross First United Methodist Church, Norcross, GA.

Survivors include his children, Craig (Debbie) Benson, Ellenwood, GA; Alan (Joni) Benson, Suwanee, GA; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren Matthew (Emily) Benson, Ezra & Micah, Central Asia; Caroline Benson, Chapel Hill, NC; Cory (Hannah) Benson, Suwanee, GA; Cameron Benson, Ellenwood, GA; brother Harold (Carolyn) Benson, Friendswood, TX; nephew Edwin (Kathy) Benson, Webster, TX; and niece Diane (Reed) Malkin, Memphis, TN. He is preceded in death by his parents Roland and Nellie Benson and his beloved wife of 61 years, Joan Curley Benson.

A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, April 15 at 11AM at Wages & Sons Funeral Home, Lawrenceville, GA. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 10AM. A brief graveside service will be held following the service at 3:30PM at Westover Memorial Park in Augusta, GA.
