EG, as he was called, was a tall and lanky man with beautiful twinkly blue eyes. He fiercly loved his family and 'farm' and his greyhound dogs. When he smiled or laughed, it was with his whole being.

BRISCOE - E.G. Fillingim, 84, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, in Canadian.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Gageby Baptist Church at Gageby with the Rev. Aaron Laverty, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Gageby Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home of Wheeler.

Mr. Fillingim was born in Turkey, Texas to Iving Gillis Fillingim and Laura Dee Coker Fillingim. He and his family later moved to Hemphill County and the Gageby Community.

He attended schools in Pleasant Valley and Gageby, and went to Canadian High School.

He married Willa Rose Singleton on May 9, 1947 in Hemphill County. He was a farmer and rancher. He was a member of Gageby Church.

Mr. Fillingim was preceded in death by an infant son, Garry Fillingim, a sister, Leola Root and two brothers, Leon and Hugh Fillingim.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Laurel Hershman (husband Ed) of Wheeler and Lajo Crownover (husband Charles) of Briscoe; a son, Gayle Singleton (wife Helen) of Amarillo; four brothers, Willis Fillingim of Briscoe, Talmage Fillingim of Providence, Utah,William Fillingim of Prescott, Ariz., and Horace Fillingim of Allison; two sisters, Eula Newman of Fort Worth and Cornelia Lehman of McGregor, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three foster children.

The family suggests memorials be to Gageby Church or the pew fund at First Baptist Church in Wheeler.
