Husband of Mary Ford Rowcliff, married June 2,1841 in Erie Co.,OH.

Son of John Rowcliff and Grace Facey Rowcliff. (His mother Grace died on the voyage to America in 1836.)

Children: Mary J Rowcliffe Moffit, John Wesley Rowcliff, Betsey Ann Rowcliffe Smith, Celestine Isabelle Rowcliff Case, George W Rowcliff, James Ford Rowcliff, and Charles Edmund Rowcliffe.

A native of Chittlehampton, Co.Devonshire, he sailed to America in 1836 on the "Ebenezer", and arrived in Peoria in 1853.

FROM Brimfield News, March 17, 1892:

Hon. William Rowcliffe, one of the early settlers of Peoria County, died at his home in Jubilee township last Friday. Mr. Rowcliffe was closely identified with the early history of the county and held many position of trust and honor, being at one time a member of the state legislature. He was an ardent Republican and could always be found at his post of duty. The funeral occurred from the Presbyterian Church at Princeville on Monday.
