Paula Ann Backes-Tanner, 59, of New Haven, MO, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at her home.

Paula was born in Washington, Missouri on November 20, 1962, the daughter of Frederick "Bud" & Carroll (Quick) Backes.

She was the wife of Steve Tanner. They were united in marriage on August 16, 2008, in New Haven, Missouri.

Paula was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, New Haven.

Paula had a heart of gold and truly lived life to the fullest. Family was everything to Paula. She was the absolute best Nan to her grandkids, and an amazing mother to her three boys and two daughter-in-laws. Not to mention a second mom to many.

Paula never knew a stranger, and was there for anyone and everyone. She made anyone who knew her feel like a friend.

She was a fantastic beautician, but she was more than that–she cared for her clients deeply. She was the co-owner of Her's & His Hair in New Haven for several years, and most recently worked at Shear Connection Salon in New Haven.

Paula is survived by her mother, Carroll Backes, of New Haven; her husband, Steve Tanner, of New Haven; three sons, Jonathan Bloch, of New Haven; Tyler Bloch & wife Sarah, of New Haven; and Austin Bloch & wife Tara, of Wentzville, Missouri; by three step-sons, Kevin, Aaron and Ethan Tanner, all of St. Peters, Missouri; by five grandchildren, Johnna, Jackson, Adalaine, Henry and Braxton; four sisters, Jackie Weidle & husband Larry, of New Haven; Sharon Althen & husband James, of New Haven; Kim Hoemann, of New Haven; Kelly Toelke & husband Robert, of New Haven; a brother, Scott Backes & wife Jackie, of Houston, Texas; and by many nieces, nephews and friends.

She is preceded in death by her father, Bud Backes and a brother-in-law, James Hoemann.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 8th from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, New Haven.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, New Haven, with Rev. Dr. Dan Smith officiating.

Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery, New Haven. Memorials may be given to New Haven Community Outreach or New Haven Garden Club. C/O Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home.
