Daughter of Henry & Louisa Blanchard Calhoun.

Wife of Allen Fast, who she married on October 21st, 1871.

Village's Oldest Resident Passes Away

Mrs. Harriett C. Fast, 98, Princeville's oldest resident and one of its most beloved citizens, passed away at her home Tuesday afternoon following a fall in which she fractured her hip a week ago.

She was born near Monica on February 9th, 1850, a daughter of Henry E. and Louisa Blanchard Calhoun. She was educated in the country schools, later attending Eureka college in Eureka.

October 21, 1871, she was married to Allen C. Fast, thus uniting two prominent pioneer families who settled this community as early as 1840.

They lived all their married life, with the exception of two years spent in Arkansas, in this community. They lived on a farm near here until they retired and moved to the village. Her husband preceded her in death.

Ten children were born to this union. Surviving are eight children: three daughters, Mrs. A. A. Dart of Waukegan, Mrs. H. D. Neff and Harriett of Princeville; five sons W. W. Fast of Princeville, E. E. Fast of Los Angeles, Dr. Harry Fast of Mackinaw, B. M. Fast of Brandenburg, Ky., and L. A. Fast of Beardstown; 10 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. A daughter, Gertrude, passed away in April of 1944 and a son E. W. Fast, passed away in Stanford, Conn., in December, 1945.

In spite of the handicap of the loss of hearing, Mrs. Fast always kept courage doing whatever her hand found to do. She was always keenly interested in the community and current affairs. She was a charter member of the WCTU and a devoted mother and counselor to her family.

Funeral services were held at the Bouton Memorial home this afternoon at 2:30 with Rev. Charles Smith officiating. Burial was in the Princeville cemetery.
