George was the son of Charles Chadwick and his wife Alice Caruth. George "was an All-American football player and coach. He played college football for Yale University from 1899 to 1902 and was the head coach of the 1903 Yale football team. After working for a time in the hardware and sales fields, George had a long career as a teacher of English, history and Latin at Eastern private boys' schools. ... During World War I, George served in the U.S. Army and achieved the rank of Captain. ...
