Sarah and John Wyatt Skinner married December 28, 1851 in Newton County, Georgia. John died in Chicago, Illinois at Camp Douglas as a Civil War prisoner. Sarah later married a "Watkins" and their children were David, Richard, and Susie. Her third marriage was to John Curtis Hardy.

1860 census page 154 enumerated on the 9th day of August in the county of Newton, Ms, Post Office Decatur. John W. Skinner age 28, Sarah age 22, James age 8, Henry age 6, Martha age 4, George age 2, and all were born in Georgia.
