34 Cyclist A G A Haggard, 1st Battalion the Scottish Horse. He volunteered for service in South Africa during the Second Anglo Boer War. Two Battalions of the Regiment were raised from Nov 1900, in South Africa, Great Britain and the Colonies. The 1st Battalion operated mainly in the Western Transvaal. Cyclist Haggard served from 19 Feb 1901 and was killed in action at Naauwpoort, a mountain pass just off the R24, a regional road between Rustenburg (North West province) to Krugersdorp (Gauteng) and close to the Olifantsnek Dam (21 km) and Magaliesburg (26km). He is also commemorated on the Scottish Horse Boer War memorial on the Edinburgh Castle Esplanade, Edinburgh, Scotland (see: https://www.warmemorialsonline.org.uk/memorial/138842/).
