Funeral services for Pedro Diaz Barrera, 83, of New Deal will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, at Our Lady Queen of the Apostles Church in New Deal, with Father John Cherolikal officiating.

Burial will be at Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Guajardo Funeral Chapels. He died on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, at Carillon House. He was born on Aug. 1, 1924, in Asherton. He married Benita Garcia on Aug. 20, 1945, in Toledo, Ohio.

He was a Trucking Contractor for the majority of his life and retired with the State of Texas in 1990. He was a loving spouse, grandfather, great-grandfather and great great-grandfather. He was loved by each and every family member.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Maria Nora and Diana.

Survivors include his wife, Benita Barrera of 62 years; stepson, Jessie Garcia; son, Pedro Jr.; daughters, Gloria, San Juana, Maria, Norma, Rosalinda, Nora Alicia, Grace, and Carolyn; 26 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and eight great great-grandchildren.
