Oliver lived on his father's farm after marrying Matilda. In 1881, he erected a barn, and in 1882 a large elegant house, "which is unusally well furnished." In 1892, he erected a stock barn, and now (1895) has all but forty acres of the original farm under cultivation. The farm contained 246 acres of land and another parcel which contains 142 acres, plus another 64 acres.
From the "Rockford Press," 1895 - "The drill stuck the lime rock at the Putman (oil) well at 20 feet, and the work is going on at a lively rate."
Oliver was a Republican office holder and a member of the school board. In 1909, he resided at 447 S. Shannon, Van Wert, OH.
