Raffaele Giuseppe Anania
APRIL 26, 1944 – FEBRUARY 17, 2022

Peacefully on February 17th, 2022, with family by his side our loving husband, father, and best nonno Raffaele Giuseppe Anania went to his heavenly home.

Raffaele will be lovingly remembered by his one true love Lucia of 55 years. Also left to cherish his memory are his children Gregorio (Anna), Alfonsina (Jamie), Francesca (Roberto) and his true pride and joy his grandchildren; Alessandra, Jenna, Davide, Dante, Domonique (Vanessa), Julianna (Brendan).

He will also be missed by his siblings Angelina, Felicia, Alfonso (Carmella), Elena, Lilianna, Franco (Rina). Brothers and sisters-in law; Franco (Annette), Maria (Joe), Rosina (Mario) and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

Predeceased by his parents Gregorio and Alfonsina, In-laws Antonio and Francesca, brothers-in-law Angelo, Giuseppe, Kenny, and his beautiful niece Lida.

Dad was born on April 26th, 1944, in Amato, Catanzaro Italy. In 1967 he immigrated to Canada in hopes of a better future. Later that year he married our mom Lucia and immediately they started their family and began their journey of crafting a beautiful life together.

Dad was a hard worker who worked numerous jobs and long hours to provide the absolute best of everything for his family. He was a very skilled mason and earned a reputation as a "Jack of all Trades" who literally could figure out how to accomplish any task with his hands. He was employed by Canadian Pacific Railway where after 27 years of hard work and dedication he retired.

When he wasn't working dad had a joy and a zest for life like no other. Dad loved a good party filled with many friends, good food and good wine. He loved spending his summers in Gimli, planting his garden, making wine, and of course making salami and soppressata. He loved going to the "Farm" enjoying the fresh air, connecting with nature and taking in the simplicity that reminded him of Italy. He was an enthusiastic Jets fan with season tickets for many years and was on the social committee for the Fratellanza Amatese.

He and mom loved their winters away in Mexico where they spent many days enjoying the company of great friends. Above all, his greatest passion and devotion was spending time with all his family, friends, and his greatest treasures of all- his grandchildren.

It has been said that "there is no greater love than this: but to lay down one's life for another." Dad was an example of this principle and lived it every day by selflessly taking care of his precious Lucia.

He will be forever known as the man who could light up a room with the greatest smile in the whole wide world.

Mass will be held on Wednesday February 23rd, 2022, at 1:00pm at Holy Rosary Parish Church 510 River Ave, (Proof of vaccination will be required). Condolences will be held at 12:00 pm. Entombment will follow at Assumption Cemetery & Queen of Heaven Mausoleum 3990 Portage Ave.
