Herbert Clarke Beardslee, of 2 Lakewood Court, died unexpectedly at 4:48 a.m. Sunday, March 12, 2000, in Chambersburg Hospital.

Born July 19, 1910, in Waverly, N.Y., he was a son of the late Edward and Julia Nichols Beardslee.

He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chambersburg.

A 1932 graduate of Pennsylvania State University, he was plant supervisor of Sealtest Foods, from 1932 to 1948. He was general manager of Chambersburg Dairy Products from 1948 until retiring in 1975.

Mr. Beardslee was a former president and member of Chambersburg Area School District board of Directors and served eight years on the advisory board of Penn State Mont Alto-two years as chairman.

He also was a member of George Washington Lodge 143, Free and Accepted Masons, Having received his a 50 year Masonic emblem on Friday; Harrisburg Consistory; Zembo Temple; Tall Cedars of Lebanon; BPOElks 600; Chambersburg Club; Penn State Alumni Association; and Izaak Walton League.
A life member of CV Hose company No. 5, he was a social member of Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1599 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Landis-McCleaf detachment of Marine Corps League.

Gertrude Stouffer Beardslee, his first wife, died on March 27, 1961. A brother also preceded him in death.

Surviving are his second wife, Rebecca Gontz Beardslee, two sons, Paul W. of Elkins, W. Va., and Edward C. of Millersville, a daughter, Lois I. Weaverling of Chambersburg; seven grandchildren; and two sisters, Barbara Lynch of Towanda and Helen Eddy of Troy.

Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Dr. Neal O. Hively will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery, Chambersburg.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the church's Neal Chapel, where members of Lodge 143, F&AM, will conduct a Masonic service at 10 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 26 W. Commerce St., or Penn Hall Menno Haven, 1425 Philadelphia Ave., both Chambersburg.

Arrangements are by Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home Inc., Chambersburg.
