Robert Lawrence was enumerated in Elmira, Tioga County, New York in 1810 with one male of age twenty six and under age forty five, two females under age ten, and two females of age sixteen and under age twenty six. Robert Lawrence was not enumerated in the 1820 census of Elmira or in Tioga County, New York.

In 1821, Robert was appointed to the Surrogate Court of Tioga County, New York. Though the county seat was in Owego, due to the vast geographic area, there was a court in Elmira, New York, which became the county seat when Chemung County was formed from Tioga County, New York.

DIED, In Elmira, on the 18th inst. ROBERT LAWRENCE, Esq. about 40 (The Geneva Gazette and General Advertiser, Geneva, New York, May 31, 1826).

Robert was originally buried in the Wisner Burying Ground, also known as the Old Baptist Cemetery and Main Street Cemetery, in Elmira. That cemetery was closed in 1876 to create a park and any family members who had not removed burials, the memorials and remains were removed to a section in Woodlawn Cemetery, where seven rows of those memorials exist today.
