Howard N. Koblentz, 63, of Newbury Park, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks after complications from surgery. Howard was born on August 16, 1953 in Cleveland, Ohio to Marvin A. Koblentz and Janet E. (Dragin) Koblentz, and had been a resident of Newbury Park for the past 26 years.

Howard was raised in Mayfield Heights, and Shaker Heights, Ohio. A talented musician, he mastered the saxophone in his early teens and could play note-for-note by ear. In high school, he was a sought-after caddy at Canterbury Golf Club in Shaker Heights, and caddied during the PGA Championship held there in 1973. After graduating from Shaker Heights High School in 1971, he attended the University of Arizona, where he graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. He established a 36-year career as a certified optician, most recently assisting patients of Dr. David Halpert with Conejo-Simi Eye Medical Group in Agoura Hills. Although he left Ohio 45 years ago, he loved baseball and remained a devoted Cleveland Indians fan. He was most comfortable wearing one of his Tribe t-shirts and blue jeans. He was a peacemaker who sought to bring people together and was always willing to lend a helping hand to family and friends. He was kind and patient, a gentle man and gentleman.

Howard is lovingly remembered by his wife of 39 years, Joetta L. (Cass) Koblentz, and their two daughters, Janet (Andrew) Simon, of Arlington, Va. and Laura (Douglas) Wahl, of Orange; three grandchildren whom he adored, Claire Simon, Timothy Simon, and Christopher Wahl; and two brothers, Richard S. Koblentz of Solon, Ohio, and Stuart Jay Koblentz (Erik) Haley of Baltimore, Md.

Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, September 30, 2016 at Perez Family Funeral Home, 1347 Del Norte Road, Camarillo. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in his honor to the food pantry where he often volunteered, Nucleus.CA, 107 N. Reino Road #174, Newbury Park, CA 91320, or www.nucleusca.org.
