He married Loretta Genso on Jan. 27, 1940, in St. Anthony Catholic Church of Detroit.
Mr. Pokriefka served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He worked as a machinist in the automotive industry in his early years. He began working for the U.S. Postal Service in 1959 and became postmaster of Fraser until his retirement in May, 1978. He provided a loving and secure home and was generous with his time, helping family, friends and those in need, said family members, adding that he was a dedicated family man who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He will be deeply missed by all those whose lives he touched, family members said.
He is survived by his children, Judith (Salvatore) Gregory, David (Mary) and Gregory (Patricia) Pokriefka; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Loretta; grandson, Richard; brothers, Walter and Norbert; and sisters, Gladys and Margaret.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Rita's Catholic Church of Holly.
A committal service will be held with full military honors at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Great Lakes National Cemetery.
Memorials to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen or Father Tom Lumpkin's Day House would be appreciated. Arrangements handled by Faulmann & Walsh Funeral Home, 32814 Utica Road, Fraser.
