Sylvia Caroline Frederickson was born on June 13, 1922, in Delafield Township, Jackson County, Minn., to the late Jens "Eli" and Helga Sophie (Olson) Johnson. She was baptized on July 30, 1922, at the Lutheran Free Church in Windom and later confirmed on May 10, 1936, at the Windom Evangelical Lutheran Church in Windom. Sylvia received her early education in country school south of Windom and later graduated from Windom Public Schools. She then attended Lutheran Bible Institute for one year.

On May 25, 1946, Sylvia was united in marriage to Marcus Omar Frederickson at the Windom Lutheran Church. After marriage, Sylvia and Marcus farmed on Marcus' homestead, where they raised their six children. While farming, Sylvia worked as the office manager at the Cottonwood County Assessors Office in Windom until retiring in 1987 after 26 faithful, dedicated years to the county. In 1990, they retired from farming. On April 1, 1997, Marcus passed away at his homestead in Delafield Township. Sylvia remained on the farm until moving into Windom. Recently, Sylvia's health had been declining and she was placed in the care of Sanford Hospice at her home in Windom.

As an active member of Delafield Lutheran Church, Sylvia served as the superintendent of Sunday school for 17 years, sang in the choir, and was a member of WELCA and the Altar Guild. After the closing of Delafield, Sylvia became a member of the American Lutheran Church in Windom, where she was a member of the Altar Guild, sewed and taught women's Bible study for many years. Besides being an active member of her church community, Sylvia was also active in her community as a member of the Delafield Township Cemetery Association, where she served as president and secretary, the Windom Hospital Auxiliary, and was a volunteer for hospice.

Sylvia will be remembered for many things in life, including singing for many weddings and funerals, being a very accepting person, and most of all, her love for her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Sylvia will be sorely missed by those who survive her, including her six children, David (Sophie) Frederickson of Chantilly, Va., Steven (Kathleen) Frederickson of O'Fallon, Ill., James (Jacquelyn) Frederickson of Richland, Wash., Ruth (Donald) Wilke of Lincoln, Neb., Rev. Mary Albing (Jane Lien) of Minneapolis, and Lois (Michael) Anderson of Windom; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, with two on the way; one sister, Dorothy (Wilbur) Turner of Minnetonka; one brother, Richard (Lois) Johnson of Windom; sister-in-law, Ardith Frederickson of Heron Lake; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Marcus Frederickson.
