Ruth Maxfield Armstrong, 91, of Clarks Summit, died Saturday at Community Medical Center. She was the widow of John Armstrong, who died Dec. 29, 2002. They were married 65 years.


Born Sept. 25, 1913, in Tamaqua, daughter of the late Irvan J. and Mildred Wetterau, she resided in Clarks Summit for the past 60 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit, where she was one of the first members of the Ladies Circle. She was also a former Cub Scout leader.


She was a great and wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.

Surviving are a son, Jack "Sandy" Armstrong and wife Eleanor, Savannah, Ga.; a daughter, Lindsay McCoy, Tampa, Fla.; two grandsons, Mike and Jeff McCoy; two great-grandchildren, Alissa and Brandon McCoy; and nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, with services by the Rev. Barbara Muntzel, associate pastor, First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit. Interment, Oak Lawn Cemetery, Wilkes-Barre.

Friends may call Wednesday, 5 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 300 School St., Clarks Summit, 18411.
