Raymond Simpson Gent

Raymond was the son of Columbus Sullins (Lum) Gent and Ollie Etta Periman. He married Anna S. Kups on December 7, 1938 in Santa Ana, Orange County, California. They had two children.

Raymond Simpson Gent, 84, Bedford, Texas, died at 4:55 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at the Parkwood Nursing Center in Bedford after a brief illness. He was born April 29, 1915, near Aldrich, the son of Columbus and Ollie Perriman Gent.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1936 and served his country for 20 years in World War II and Korea. He was married to Anna S. Kups in San Pedro, Calif., in 1938, and to this union two sons were born. He ended his Navy career at the Navy ROTC Unit at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, retiring in 1956. He remained in the Atlanta area and retired from his second career in 1977. In 1994 he and his wife moved to the Parkwood Retirement Community in Bedford, Texas. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association No. 89 in Atlanta, Ga.

Surviving are his wife, Anna S. Gent of Bedford, Texas; his two sons, Raymond D. Gent of Euless, Texas, and Carl D. Gent of McLean, Va.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Services were Friday, Nov. 12, in the Butler Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Stewart and the Rev. Donald I. Gent officiating. Musical soloist was Marsha Hopkins. Burial with full military honors was in the Barren Creek Cemetery west of Bolivar. Casket bearers were Darren Gent, David Gent, Scott Gent, Ssg. Lance Logue and Terry James.
