William S. Weygandt was born January 10, 1884 in Illinois to Henry and Hattie (Phillips) Weygandt. After a brave fight of several weeks against the dreaded disease, pneumonia, he was called to his final reward at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1920.

Mr. Weygandt had been in poor health for several months, rendering him the more susceptible to the ravages of the disease resulting in his death.

He has been a resident of Pomeroy for the past nine years, coming here from Illinois. During his time in Pomeroy, he met and married Carrie E. Briggs on July 17, 1912 in Fort Dodge. He was proprieter of the Elite Cafe,, which he successfully conducted for three years preceeding his death.

That Mr. Weygandt was a loyal American will be emphatically attested by all who knew him, his loyalty being outspoken and active.

Near relatives who survive him are the widow, and the father and two sisters who reside at Troy Grove, Illinois. "Hans" as he was familiarly known, leaves a host of friends who will sincerely mourn the young man's death.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m., Feb. 14, 1920, from the home, being conducted by Rev. H.S. Baumgartner, and interment made in Union Cemetery. Near relatives present from out of town were the father, H.C. Weygandt, and a sister Mrs. Emma Dock of Troy Grove, Ill.
