Born in Scranton she was the daughter of the late Anna and Henry Gerrity. A graduate of St. Patrick's High School, she then went on to earn her R.N. from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Scranton. Prior to retirement she worked in hospitals in the Pennsylvania and New Jersey area. Later in life Joan worked as a school nurse and as a private duty nurse.
She is survived by her children, William Jr (Sharon) of Greenville, NY, Paul (Petra) of Taylor, PA, and Theresa Terwilliger (Richard) of Winchester, VA; grandchildren, Olivia Ross, Adrienne Williamson, Rebecca Reed, Cassidy Reed, and Maeve Terwilliger; great-grandchildren, Daniel, Joshua, Nathan, Wes, Owen, and Isla. She is also survived by a brother, Henry (Joan), Scranton and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by sister Ann (Nancy) Kugler, and grandson Daniel Schultz.
