William David Love Appling, Ph.D., 83, of Denton, died Monday, October 16, 2017 at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Denton.
Dr. Appling was born on September 13, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois to William Love Appling and Grace Genevieve (Williams) Appling. He was married to Betty (Lamar) Appling on December 20, 1964 in Weatherford; she died on November 13, 2008. He was a mathematics professor; working at Duke University and the University of North Texas. He served in the United States Army and was a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Denton.
Dr. Appling is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Ann Appling of Denton; son, Steven Lamar Appling of Denton; brother, Shane Love Appling of El Paso; two grandchildren, Baily Nicole Appling and Kaleb Mason Love Appling; great-granddaughter, Paisley Rebecca Appling.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until service time at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 21, 2017 in the chapel of Mulkey-Bowles-Montgomery Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust, Denton. Pastor Craig Hunter will officiate the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Rifle Association at NRA.org or the Trinity Presbyterian Church, 2200 N. Bell Ave., Denton, TX 76209.
