Son of Grover Cleveland & Lauretta (Wilson) Adkins∼Howard Carsalee "Bill" Adkins, 82, of Midkiff moved on to his heavenly home on Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Huntington.
He was born November 14, 1927, in Nine Mile and was a son of the late Grover Cleveland and Lauretta Wilson Adkins.
Bill was a lifelong member of Camp Branch United Baptist Church, where he joyfully praised the Lord as choir director. He was a trustee for the Bethlehem Association and a retired conductor for C&O Railways, where he worked for 38 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Odessa Mae "Roxy" Roy Adkins; son, Jeffery Alan Adkins; grandson Gary Lee "J.R." Adkins Jr.; eight brothers, Hallie Adkins, Haskell Adkins, Sigmund "Tosa" Adkins, Shannon Adkins, Abe Adkins, Purleigh Adkins, Dennis Adkins, and Husey Adkins; and two sisters, Edith Adkins Prader and Thelma Lovejoy.
Survivors include his loving wife, Betty L. Bellomy Adkins; a daughter, Sandy (Donald) Johnson; a son, Gary Lee (Sherry) Adkins; stepdaughter LaDonna (Patrick) Flower; grandchildren, Stephanie Johnson, Brandon "B.J." (Natasha) Johnson, Kelly (Josh) Miller and Ryan Flower; his special love and darling angel, great granddaughter, Keely Grace Miller; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, church family and friends.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday, May 7, at McGhee-Handley Funeral Home, West Hamlin, with the Rev. Bobby Burns, the Rev. Joe Dolin and the Rev. Mark Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Memory Gardens, Hamlin.
