DURANT -- Funeral services for Emma Jean Roper, 74, were scheduled at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 23, 1999, at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Darel Bunch officiating. Interment was at Highland Cemetery under the direction of Murray Funeral Home.

Mrs. Roper died Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999, in Sherman, Texas. She was born Sunday, May 24, 1925, in Durant, to Robert and Pearl Harper.

She attended Cobb High School and graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University with her bachelor's and master's degrees in education. She retired from the Sherman Public School System after teaching 31 years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She and Jack G. Roper were married Oct. 13, 1942, at Tacoma, Wash. He died Nov. 20, 1993.

She is survived by a son, Bobby and wife, Sue, Roper, Fayetteville, Ark.; a brother, Jim Harper, Durant; sisters, Louise Gentry, Durant, Sue McCreary, Waco, Texas, and Doris Spencer, Sallisaw; grandsons, Dan and Zac Roper, Fayetteville, Kurt Roper, Oxford, Miss.

Pallbearers are Howard Harper, Alan Harper, Greg McCreary, Robert Spencer, Dwight Spencer and Wendell Cathey.
