Services to be held on Wednesday, January 02, 2008 | 2: pm

St. Benedict's Church with Rev. Gerard Senecal, OSB as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. A parish and Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited on Tuesday, January 1, 2007 at 7:00 P.M. in the chapel of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 8:30 P.M. Memorial contributions are suggested to Knights of Columbus Council #723 or Atchison Elks Lodge and may be left in care of the funeral home.

JOHN A. BROX is survived by: A daughter, Sherry Scott, Henderson, NV, a son, Terry Brox, Atchison, KS, six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, two nieces, Ieleen Sitton, Mexico, MO, Venita Lewis, Sedalia, MO, and a nephew, John Lutz, the state of Alabama.

He was predeceased by a great-great-grandson, Braeden A. Kuhnert, two sisters, Annie Lutz, Mary Elizabeth (Mollie) Tritsch and a brother, Joseph R. Brox.

John was born in rural Atchison County Kansas the son of John Joseph and Eliza Keeler Brox. His father was known as the "Corn King of Atchison". John attended elementary school at Independence Valley School, northwest of Atchison.

John founded Brox for Rocks Company in 1944, continuing as owner and operator until his death. Additionally he owned and operated Brox Quarry, formerly Kerford's Quarry, from 1966 until 1986. He had also farmed and owned and operated a beer distribution business. One of John's great accomplishments was when he, in the early 1950's platted Su Terra Drive, a residential community in Atchison. He performed all the excavation work and digging for the water lines, gas lines and the roadway at no cost to the lot owners.

He and the former Betty Jane Dilgert were united in marriage on March 28, 1932 in Atchison, Kansas. She preceded him in death in September of 1986.

John was a member of St. Benedict's Church, a life member of Knights of Columbus Sacred Heart Council #723, a member of William T. Jochems Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Atchison County Historical Society, past director and member of Atchison Chamber of Commerce where he served as chair of the agriculture committee, Moose Lodge and Royal Moose Lodge of St. Joseph, Missouri, Eagles Lodge, Leavenworth, Kansas, and a former trustee of the Atchison Eagles Lodge, McCormick Club, past president of the Fellowship Club, member and former trustee of the Atchison Elks Lodge, and formerly served on both the city planning commission and zoning appeals board.
