RONCEVERTE — Beirnie Lee Deskins Sr., 79, passed away Monday, March 21, 2011, in the UVA Medical Center, Charlottesville, Va., after a long illness.

Born April 21, 1931, in Union, he was the son of the late James Harvey and Gladys Faye Dunbar Deskins.

He was a lifelong resident of Ronceverte, member of the First Baptist Church of Fairlea, member of the Ronceverte Little League for 35 years, Ronceverte River Festival committee for 19 years, President of C.W.A. and worked for the C&P Telephone Company for 35 years as a Central Office Technician.

Preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Walter Deskins and Ray Deskins and one grandchild Morgan Sheppard.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Lee Deskins of Ronceverte, four daughters, Debbie Sheppard of Ennis, Texas, Cindy Faulkner and husband, Marshall of Gladys, Va., Bridget Woolwine and husband, Billy of Appomattox, Va., and Connie Caples and husband, Doug of Ronceverte; a son, Beirnie Lee Deskins Jr. and wife, Shirley of Goodview, Va.' Two sisters, Lucinda Baxter and Margery Penne, both of Sinks Grove; two brothers, Russell Deskins of Sinks Grove and George Deskins of Hillsdale and 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2011 at the Ronceverte Island Park Amphitheater with Rev. Kevin Preveit officiating.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of the funeral on Friday at the amphitheater.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church 9232 Seneca Trail South, Ronceverte, WV 24970.
