"Slim" was born Oct. 18, 1930, in Quail, Texas, the son of James E. Funderburg Sr. and Anna Ida (Long) Funderburg. He married Winnie Ruth Lindly Nov. 14, 1953, in Sweetwater. Slim worked in the dairy business for 54 years and retired from Gandy's Dairies. He had been a resident of Brownwood since 1970.

Survivors include his wife, Winnie Ruth Funderburg of Brownwood; son, James Robert Funderburg of Brownwood; daughters, Patricia Ann Cartner of Mobile, Ala., and Jana Mae Simpson of Abilene; brothers, Melvin Don Funderburg of Sweetwater, Kenneth Lee Funderburg of Sweetwater, Charles Earl Funderburg of Colorado City and Roland Urban Funderburg of 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, with another on the way; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James E. Funderburg Sr. and Anna Ida (Long) Funderburg; and grandson, Jason Cartner.
