Steinmann, Florence Marie
Passed away peacefully at her residence in Nithview Community, New Hamburg on Saturday, October 8, 2016. Florence was born 86 years ago, a daughter of the late David Erb and former Annie Gerber. Beloved wife of Arthur Steinmann of New Hamburg, with whom she celebrated 62 years of marriage. Loving mother of Esther Steinmann Kennel (Cliff) of Haysville, Pauline Steinmann (Neil Regier) of Waldheim, SK, Jan Steckley (Jeff) of Haysville, Rosalie Steinmann (Johannes van der Meer) of Netherlands and Ronnie Steinmann (Mindy Crawford) of New Hamburg . Dear grandma and great-grandma of Andrea Kennel, Dan Steckley, Dean and Phoebe Steckley and their daughter Lena, Zach Steckley and fiance, Beth Bender, Karen and Nico Schilder and their son Bruin, Alex van der Meer and Samantha van der Meer.
Also remembered by sisters June Schwartzentruber (Vernon) of St. Jacobs, Hilda Gingerich (Elroy) of New Hamburg, Marjorie Schwartzentruber (Laverne) of Baden, Darlene Culp (Harold) of New Hamburg and brother Carl Erb (Fern) of New Hamburg; and by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Rueben Steinman, Leona Steinman, Irene Bender, Dorothy and Willard Schwartzentruber, Ervin and Erma Steinmann, David and Ruth Steinmann as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Florence was predeceased by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Mabel and Rueben Kennel, Walter Steinman, Ervin Bender, Ruth and Ross Bender.
Florence's life was devoted to raising her family and sharing her gifts of hospitality. Art and Florence's home was always open and over the years many people gathered around their table to share delicious food and fellowship.
Florence was a member of Steinmann Mennonite Church and served in a variety of leadership roles, including serving as the first female elder. She also served as the President of Women of Mennonite Church Eastern Canada and as a volunteer for many Rockway Mennonite Collegiate projects and events.
Florence's motto for life can be summed up in these words …. "Do what you feel called to do. Be sure to accept opportunities that come your way."
Visitation will be held at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg on Wednesday, October 12 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. The interment will take place on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 12:30 p.m. at Steinmann Mennonite Cemetery, followed by the memorial service at Steinmann Mennonite Church at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Steve Drudge and Pastor Ilene Bergen officiating.
