Services will be Monday for Fred Oertly, a road construction worker in the Santa Cruz area for many years who died Friday at the age of 86.
A lifelong resident of California, Mr. Oertly was born in Salinas and moved to Santa Cruz in 1934 from San Jose. He was a longtime member of the Laborer's Union Local 283 of Santa Cruz and of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 888 of Santa Cruz. He was a veteran of World War I, having served in Europe.
He survived by his wife, Clemence Oertly of Santa Cruz; his son, Albert J Thevenin of Santa Cruz; a sister, Elvina Oertly of Salinas; his grandchildren, Albert J. Thevenin, Howard Lewis Thevenin and Kimberly Thevenin, all of Santa Cruz and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation for family and friends will be held today from noon until 9pm and on Monday from 8am until 1 p m at White's & Wessendorf Chapel. 138 Walnut Ae Services will begin Monday at 1 p m. at White's & Wessendorf Chapel, with the V F.W. Post 888 of Santa Cruz officiating.
Interment will follow at Oakhill Cemetery in San Jose.
Contributions in Mr. Oertly's name to the American Cancer Society. 209 Walnut Ave . Santa Cruz, are preferred.
