Eleanor Marguerite (Moore) Lowe of Wanamaker, Indiana passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at the age of 96.

Eleanor was born at home on the family farm in Elmwood, Illinois on June 26, 1925 to Angus R. Moore and Eleanor (Mae) Moore. She was the middle child between two brothers, Dale and Gene. Eleanor graduated in 1942 from Williamsfield High School in Williamsfield, Illinois.

On March 11, 1951, Eleanor married Master Sergeant Kenneth Casson of the United States Air Force. After they were married, he was stationed in Boise County, Idaho where they resided. Four months after being married, Eleanor unexpectedly became a widow as Kenneth passed on July 15, 1951 due to a medical condition. Eleanor returned to the family farm and several years later, friends/neighbors arranged a blind date for Eleanor to meet Albert ("Al") Lowe who was working on their farm. Eleanor and Al began dating and on August 10, 1958, they were married. Upon marrying Al, Eleanor became stepmother to Brenda and Nancy, and she moved to Indianapolis where Al resided.

Thereafter, Eleanor and Al had two children, Mary Ann and Robert ("Bobby") George. Following Bobby's birth, Eleanor began a journey of caring for a special needs child as Bobby was born with Down's Syndrome. Eleanor was told after Bobby's birth that he would never do anything for himself, but she knew he was given to the family for a purpose which at the time she didn't understand. As time went on, she came to understand the purpose was to teach, to love, and for Bobby to be a witness to others – a witness that where there is love there is hope and encouragement. When Bobby began his education at RISE Learning Center in 1971 through 1984, Eleanor became an active parent volunteer. She was a member of the PTA, in charge of the street of stores in the building which provided shopping and banking experiences for the students (she was the buyer for the store and would shop to buy items that she knew the students would enjoy), surrogate parent for IEP conferences, in charge of teacher/staff appreciation luncheons, in charge of annual breakfast for the RISE bus drivers, and hospitality chairman. In the early 1980s, Eleanor was the chairperson for a group of concerned parents in search of "special" children not enrolled in public education programs in hopes of placing those unserved youth in appropriate educational programs. When it was close to time for Bobby to graduate from RISE, Eleanor joined a group of parents that were concerned that after graduating their children faced a very limited, if not closed job market due to their handicap, lack of skills, and lack of services available. The parents did not want their child sitting at home without any hope for a productive future or a chance to prove their worth to become a productive member of the community. Through the parents' hard-work and determination, they started the Southside Work Center in 1981 to provide a work environment for special needs' individuals of hand assembly jobs and to provide an opportunity to be with their peers. Southside Work Center later became known as Handi-Capable Hands. Both Eleanor and Al were very active parents/volunteers at Handi-Capable Hands until their health declined. In 2016 Handi-Capable Hands became Easterseals Crossroads.

Eleanor had many hobbies including sewing, shopping, and cooking. Before her children were born, she created and made beautiful, appliqued aprons. One summer her aprons were on display at the Indiana State Fair in the Necchi sewing machine booth in Expo Hall. After her children were born, she enjoyed making clothes for them. Eleanor was a wonderful baker and cook. She was always trying new recipes and sharing her delicious treats with others. She was known for her pumpkin roll, ribbon salad, cherry pie, homemade bread, chocolate cake, and countless varieties of cookies. Her baked goods always contained an extra ingredient which was "love".

When Eleanor became a "Grandma" but her official name became "Tata" (thanks to David), it was a role that she shined in. She loved making things for her grandchildren including clothes, Halloween costumes, and other fun things. She enjoyed helping to take care of them when they were little and attending their sporting activities and school performances. From August 2010 when Eleanor and Bobby moved into the Gerth house, Eleanor got to enjoy being around her grandsons almost everyday which was a highlight for her.

Eleanor was a member of the Franklin Township Junior Homemakers Club; the Four Corners Homemakers Club; Handi-Capable Hands Ladies Auxiliary; Mary Bryan Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (41-year member); and Franklin Central Christian Church.
