Son of Wiley & Sarah Adeline Davis Motes.

His death certificate indicated he died of injuries sustained in an "auto injury" where he suffered a fractured pelvis. He also contracted pneumonia and combined from the shock and injury of the accident, he passed away. His obituary stated he died after an illness of ten days.

Survived by two brothers, J.W. Motes of Honea Path and H.R. Motes of Williamston; and a sister, Miss Eliza Motes of Williamston.
