From the Boston Gazette, 30 May 1791, page 3: Died at Roxbury, on the 27th Instant, of a gradual Decay, the fatal Issue of such he foresaw and prepared himself for, with great Composure and Fortitude, WILLIAM ERVING, Esq; a member of the American Academy of Arts & c. formerly an Officer in the Army of his Britannic Majesty, whose service he quitted on the Commencement of the Troubles between Great-Britain and America.
His Relations and Friends are informed that his Remains will be carried to the Place of Interment, from Mrs. Waldo's in Bromfield Lane at five o'clock THIS AFTERNOON when they are requested to attend without further Notice.
We hear, that besides other Charities, the late William Erving, Esq. has bequeathed £ 1,000 to the University; the interest of which he has appropriated by his Will, to the Professor of Chemistry, for the time being.
Land granted to him in New Hampshire for military service is still shown as "Erving's Location" population 0.
