A portion of an article on "Bakers To Mark 50th Anniversary"

The Bakers have lived in Moscow for almost 40 years. Prior to that they lived in Pullman and Elma, Wash., where Orien was principal of the high school and she taught school.

Baker was professor of soils at the University of Idaho. Mrs. Baker was a secretary in the UI dairy department.

They met while undergraduates at Washington State University, but waited to graduate before getting married. "You didn't get married and go to school then," Mrs. Baker noted with a smile.

They were married Oct 22, 1924 at Walla Walla.

Retired since 1966, both are very active in civic and church affairs. Both are members of several groups including the American Legion and Auxiliary the Latah County Pioneers, the American Association of Retired Persons and the Order of the Eastern Star. He is a 50-year member of Kiwanis and a member of Phi Kappa Phi and serves on the Latah County Museum board.
