"Ray M.' Jack' Weidman, 89, of Palmerton, passed away Saturday, September 13 in his home. He was the longtime companion of Patricia A. Smith. They were together for the last 25 years.

He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Palmerton, where he rang the church bell for several years. Jack served honorably in both WWII and the Korean Conflict. As an Army staff sergeant under General Patton, he participated in most of the decisive battles in Western Europe. A military heavy equipment operator, he remained for a year to help clean up and rebuild several war-damaged European countries. He was again drafted into an armored division for the Korean Conflict, which ended before he deployed. In civilian life, Jack worked longest for the former Scott's Fashions, where he held many highly-skilled maintenance positions over more than 40 years until retiring in 1991.

Born in Wind Gap, he was a son of the late Earl and Helen (Krock) Weidman.

Survivors: Companion Patricia Smith of Palmerton; daughters Regina and husband Jeff VanHorn of Bangor, Bonnie and husband Ed Shank, Ruth and husband Guy Diprey, and Jean Schopp, all of Bath, Colleen in Wisconsin, Denise and husband David Silfies of Palmerton; sons Russell, and Jim and wife Julie, both in North Carolina; Matthew and wife Marilyn in Ohio, John and wife Tina in Wisconsin; Timothy Smith and companion David Meitzler in Arizona; 30 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren; sisters Mrs. Gladys Klein, and Virginia and husband Robert Silfies, both of Bath. He was predeceased by a brother Emerson and 2 great-grandchildren.
