YAKIMA - Our loving Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2007 at Memorial Hospital CCU after complications from emergency surgery on December 15th. Mom was born on January 27, 1926 in Joplin, Missouri to Anna (Vaughn) and John Strait.

The family moved to Northern Idaho and she graduated from Wallace High School. While there she was the drum major for the band and led them to a state championship in band competition. After relocating to Spokane, Washington, she met Frank DiMario, Sr. and they were married in August of 1944. Dad was shipped overseas during WWII and returned home to Spokane where they proceeded to raise three children.

In 1958 Mom and Dad moved to Yakima, WA and in 1960 entered into the beverage business with Crown Distributing, later to become R & R Beverage Company. Mom worked in the business until the death of Dad in October of 1989. She retired from the business in 1991 when she met and married Loren Van Horn. Mom and Loren enjoyed their retirement years, keeping busy with joining a bowling league and enjoying their friends and family. They traveled in the USA and made a memorable trip on the Orient Express visiting Hong Kong and Turkey as well. Mom's family and extended family were very important to her. She loved the Holidays from Halloween to Christmas and loved to decorate her home inside and out. We lost count of the Xmas trees that Mom had, but we think she had more than 10. Larry Broderson would often help Mom decorate the outside of the house and she would help with his Christmas Families and his years as Santa Claus.

Mom is preceded in death by her parents Anna and John Strait, brothers Earl and Johnny, her husband of 45 years, Frank DiMario, Sr., her husband of 11 years, Loren Van Horn and her stepson, Rick Van Horn. She is survived by her three children, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, as well as stepson his two sons. Mom is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews. Mom is especially fortunate to have friends who remained at Mom's bedside until the end. All who knew her and received her love will miss her. Mom loved to laugh, tease and enter into any debate and try to win.

We would like to thank Memorial Hospital CCU, especially Dr. Urrutia, her caring Nurses, Kim, Sharon, Rachel and CJ. Without whom, we could not have endured. Though we are distanced by time from you, Mom, that bond will hold us close and will never weaken. The love we share will never be more than a memory apart.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday January 2nd and 3rd at the Keith and Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2008 at the Keith and Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2008 in Greenwood Memorial Park, Spokane, WA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Hospital Foundation in care of Keith and Keith Funeral Home, 902 W. Yakima Avenue, Yakima, WA 98902, whom is entrusted with the arrangements.
