Mildred Sue Barnard, 77, of Oklahoma City, died on Friday, February 18, 2022. She was born November 24, 1944, in Abilene, Texas to William Allingham and Mildred Etta Josephine (Sanders) Truly. She grew up in Irving, Texas, and graduated from Irving High School in 1962. While attending college, she met Ronald Drue Barnard, her husband of 53 years, on a blind date at a sock hop. Although that first date was not a success for either one of them, they came to see a life-long love in each other and married on January 9, 1965. She worked for several companies in the Dallas area before they welcomed their first child, Suzanne Nicole, in 1968, and their son, Bryan Scott, in 1971. The family moved first to Amarillo (1970) and then to Oklahoma City (1972) when Ron was transferred to their respective Black & Decker Service Centers. After many years of being a stay-at-home mother, she went back to work in 1976. She worked for several years for Dolese Brothers Company before working for Hartzog, Conger, and Cason, Attorneys. In 1982, she began working for Alexander Energy Corporation and specialized in Human Resources and was Corporate Secretary until they were purchased. She then went to work in those areas for Canaan Resources. Sue was an intelligent, hard worker with a quick smile, a witty (somewhat naughty) sense of humor, and a heart for helping anyone in need. As she got older, she would often comment on how important family is and that nothing compares to the love given and received within a family. She and her husband were involved with buying and selling antiques and enjoyed that for many years together. She was the founder and owner of Another Time Antiques. She loved learning the history behind the pieces she had in her store and researched it all endlessly. She also loved dressing classy, getting her hair and nails done, and rarely stepped foot outside the house without full make-up on. She was a mean cook, back in the day when her man and children loved her cooking. She and Ron were notorious for having cookouts and get-togethers where no one went home hungry. In addition to her children, those left to cherish her memory are her sister-in-law, Mildred Truly, her daughter-in-law, Penny (Coodey) Barnard, her son-in-law, Paul Hostetler, her seven grandchildren, Delaney, Tiffany, Thomas, Lillian, Christopher, Katherine, and George, and one great-grandson, Declan, her brothers-in-law, Douglas Barnard and John McCoy, and her sister-in-law, Sharon McCoy. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Allingham and Mildred Etta Josephine Sanders Truly, her brothers, Robert and William Truly, and her sister, Linda Truly, her son-in-law, Marcin Kobzdej, as well as her mother- and father-in-law, Robert Drue and Laura Mae Cavanaugh Barnard, and sister-in-law, Kathy Dollar Barnard. The funeral service (11 am) and burial (immediately following) will be Saturday, February 26, at Smith and Kernke Funeral Home, 1401 NW 23rd Street, Oklahoma City, OK, 73106, and at Fairlawn Cemetery, 2700 N Shartel Ave, Oklahoma City, OK, 73103.
