He grew up in the Ainsworth and Valentine area. Richard went on to obtain his GED. Richard worked as a carpenter.
On February 14, 1991 Richard married Sandra Kliewer at the Hamilton County Court House. Richard worked for the City of Aurora in the Public Works department for many years.
Richard enjoyed gardening, mirror making, coin collecting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sandy of Aurora; four children, Maggie Conant and fiancé Nic Liegl of Grand Island, Lori Cappellano of Omaha, Jerry Jones of Aurora and Tiffanie Jones of Aurora; grandchildren, Leanne Sperry, Emily Bennetzen, James Conant, Jr., Kyra Conant, Kirsten Riebold-Sperry; great-grandsons, Anthony and Joseph; his brother, Robert Fernau and friend Laurie and sister, Cindy (Bud) Starnes. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as brothers-in law & sisters-in-law.
