Nellie was born in North Bend, Nebraska to Ahab and Mary Strayer. She was one of twelve children. She married Archie Ferguson in 1907 when she was 20 years old. They had 5 children together. In 1915, when she was 28, Archie left her and she committed suicide by jumping in the Platte River. She tied two of her daughters, Bessie (3 yrs) and Helen (2 yrs), to her body, taking them to their deaths along with hers. Her story is tragic. Newspaper records say that upon finding her body, her remains were placed in a casket and taken to North Bend.Nellie was the wife of Archie Allen Ferguson.

Nellie drown in the Platte River in North Bend. She floated down river and her body was brought back to North Bend for burial. - According to obituaries.
