Col. Thomas Middleton, of Boochawe Plantation, b. 1719; d. 17th Dec. 1766, at Beaufort; Justice of the Peace, and member of the Commons, 1742-66; Adjutant of Charleston Regiment, 1741; of Wright's Horse, 1743; and afterwards Captain in the Berkeley Regiment; commanded the "Gentlemen Volunteers "on an expedition into the Cherokee Mountains; Colonel of the South Carolina Regiment, and commanded the latter at the Battle of Etchoee, and in the campaign against the Cherokees; m. (firstly) Mary Bull, d. 2d Feb. 1760, dau. of John Bull of Bull's Island, and had issue; m. (secondly) Anne Barnwell, dau. of Nathaniel Barnwell. She m. (secondly) 24th May, 1772, Stephen Bull, of Sheldon, S.C.
