William A. "Bill" Mitchell, 83, of Manchester passed away peacefully at his home February 11, 2022 surrounded by family.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Meriwether Memory Gardens with Pastor Will Brown officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:45 pm to 1:45 pm at Cox Funeral Home in Manchester prior to the service.
Bill was born on January 29, 1939 in Manchester, the son of Roy and Alice Mitchell. He honorably served his country in the United States Army and worked as a plumber for the Meriwether County Board of Education until his retirement.
He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting, especially turkey hunting. He enjoyed playing in various church and city-league softball teams. He was a loving man, who adored his children, grandchildren, and siblings. Always willing to lend a hand, he took care of his neighbors like family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janelle Mitchell; daughter, Jenny Mitchell Becton; parents; siblings, Joyce Mitchell Russell, Frankie Mitchell, T.B. Mitchell; mother and father in law, Oscar and Nell Gilbert; brother-in-law, Rob Cato; and son-in-law, Larry Becton.
He is survived by his family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to Columbus Hospice, 7020 Moon Road Columbus, GA or the American Cancer Society.
