In some records she is listed as Louise.

Louisa was born in Sweden, immigrating to America in 1887. She married John L. Bystrom in Denver, Colorado in 1889. They were blessed with three children in Colorado, and when they baptized Carl Edwin (known simply as Edwin in 1910), her maiden name was listed in the Lutheran church records as Gahnström.

By 1910, Louisa and John had decided to farm in the rich Platte river valley, in Douglas County, Nebraska. Louisa's widowed sister, Amanda, joined them there. Amanda had married a man in New York after immigrating to America, and Louisa's 2 nephews and one niece had all been born in New York. Amanda had given birth to 6 children, but only 4 were still living. 3 of the 4 came with their mother to live on the farm with Louisa and John.
The family moved to Omaha, Nebraska sometime in or before 1935.

Sadly, John died in 1936. By 1940, the widowed Louisa was still living in Omaha, Nebraska with Edwin and his young family, at 2504 Emmet Street. John had been buried in Westlawn-Hillcrest cemetery. At Census time in 1940, Louisa was 79 years old.
