Son of Edmund & Mary Basye
of Fauquier County, Virginia.

He enlisted to the 17th Virginia Infantry on 3/10/1862.
Served in Company F with his brother Sergeant Edmund B. Basye.

Luther was captured at Frazier's Farm, VA. Shipped to Fort Columbus, NY. Then was moved to Fort Warren, MA.
Was released in July 1862. He returned and re-joined his company with the 17th Virginia to march and fight at the 2nd Manassas, VA.
He was wounded in the battle.

Died October 27, 1863 in Virginia Hospital, Petersburg, VA.
