Kahlke
Mrs Elsie Johnston Kahlke, 58, formerly of Rock Island, died at her home Saturday after a three years' illness. She had spent the greater part of her life in Rock Island when she was an active member of several organizations here.
The decedent was born Oct 30, 1882, in Reynolds, the daughter of Mr and Mrs William Y Johnston. In her early childhood the family moved to Rock Island where she was graduated from the grade and high schools. She attended Coe college at Cedar Rapids and taught the third grade of Hawthorne school here for a number of years before her marriage to William G Kahlke of Rock Island, June 17, 1014. Mrs Kahlke directed and sang in the choirs of the Broadway Presbyterian and First Baptist churches.
Surviving are the widower; two sons, William J and James H, and a sister, Mrs T O Menees, all of Chicago.
The body was brought to Rock Island and will remain at the Knox mortuary today. Funeral services will be held at the First Methodist church in Preemption at 11 a m Tuesday with Rev Robert Spencer officiating. Burial will be in the Preemption cemetery.
