Jerry S. Jones, 81 years old of Dixon Springs, passed away Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 2:28 p.m. at Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis, IL.

He was born January 10, 1941 to Ray C. Jones and Ruth Whiteside Jones of Dixon Springs....

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers; James "Jim" Jones, Julius "Doc" Jones, Joseph "Pistol" Jones, Jean "Peter Bob" Jones, and Jack Jones, one sister Jessie Ruth Jones (Veach) and one great grand baby, Tanner Timothy Threlkeld.

Jerry helped his parents on the family farm on Rock Road. He graduated from Pope County High School in 1959, and also married his high school sweetheart, Rebecca Lane, on February 6, 1959. He returned to Pope County in 1965 where he lived with his wife and family until his passing. Jerry was a lay-out foreman for Southern IL Steel in Metropolis and retired from Illinois Department of Corrections. He enjoyed wood-working, fishing, hunting, and riding his 4-wheeler around the farm. Jerry spent much of his retirement watching his grandchildren play ball and attending family celebrations. He was affectionately known as our Poppie. His home was his happy place surrounded by all his family. He was a gifted, self taught piano player. Jerry was saved as a young boy at Glendale Methodist Church. He attended his family church, Dixon Springs Methodist Church still located in Dixon Springs State Park. Jerry often retold stories of his family's ownership history of the park. An article that was published in 1996 discusses the park history and references quotes from Jerry.
