Wanda Sue was born July 6, 1957 in El Campo to Claude Cleve Pounders and Mildred Louise Pounders. She grew up in Oletha and graduated from Groesbeck High School in the Class of 1975.

Her siblings are Cynthia Kay Starkey of Abilene, Claude Cleve Pounders, Jr. and wife Sonya Pounders of Florida, and William Pounders and fiancée Deana Hyatt (who considered Wanda Sue her sister for the past seventeen years) of San Antonio.

She leaves behind her eighteen nieces and nephews: Billy Pounders and fiancée Lety Valezquez, Danny Corely and fiancée Elizabeth Wollney, Chance Pounders, Clayton Pounders, Austin Pounders, Patrick Pounders, Josh Pounders, Debra Little and husband Josh Little, David Starkey and wife, Malinda Starkey, Cameron Ingram, Devonee Ingram, Jerrid Ingram, Samantha Pounders, and Christopher Pounders; and numerous great nieces and great nephews.
