Adolph "Shorty" Brantner, age 81, of Menomonie, passed away Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007, at American Lutheran Home in Menomonie.

Adolph was born June 22, 1926, in Menomonie, the son of Adolph L. and Elsie (Ninneman) Brantner.

Shorty graduated from Menomonie High School in 1947. He served in World War II for three years as a baker aboard ship in the Navy.

In 1947, Shorty married Eileen Whinnery and they had two children, Marie and Steve.

On Nov. 15, 2007, Shorty and Eileen celebrated their 60th anniversary with their loving family.

Shorty worked as a stock comptroller for 29 years at Lee's Drug Store in Menomonie and nine years at 3M as a security guard, also in Menomonie. He retired on July 1, 1989.

In his spare time, Shorty enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and gardening. He was very active at the Menomonie Senior Center and served as president for six years.

Shorty is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Eileen; a daughter, Marie (David) Kreutzer of Menomonie; a son, Steve (Lynn) Brantner of Menomonie; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Wyatt (Tracie) Kreutzer of Eau Claire, and Mitchell (Lisa) and son Taylor Kreutzer of Menomonie, Erin (Dana) Johansen and son Jackson of Baldwin, Tim (LeAnn) Brantner and daughter Kianna of Kauai, Hawaii; brothers, Jerome (Shirley) Brantner and Donald (Janet) Brantner; a sister, Edith Brantner; and also many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Stella, Pauline, Bernice and an infant sister.

The family would like to express their thanks to Red Cedar Medical Center, Dr. Rich and Dr. Eitrheim, Luther Hospital, the staff at American Lutheran Home, Northwest Wisconsin Home Care and Dunn County Hospice.

A memorial service for Shorty will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, at the United Methodist Church in Menomonie with Rev. James L. Harrington officiating. Family and friends may call at the church one hour prior to the memorial service on Wednesday. Following the service, there will be a flag presentation by the Menomonie Veteran's Honor Guard. Burial of Shorty's cremains will be at a later date. Olson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Menomonie is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Menomonie Senior Center, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
