Vada "Elaine" Couch, 86 of Green Castle, Missouri, died on Monday, January 31, 2022, at Putnam County Memorial Hospital.

Elaine was born on June 11, 1935, near Sticklerville, Missouri. She was the daughter of Esper Vinland and Bernice Clio (Williams) Dixon. On June 20, 1953, she married Tommy Couch. He preceded her in death in 2011.

Surviving are her three children and their spouses; Tammy and Russell Billington of Keytesville, Jana and Steven Young of Unionville, and Clay and Jana Couch of Green City. Grandchildren are Wade (Cloe) Billington, Megan (Ben) Hahs, Kane Young, Cole Young, Josie (Joel) Hinkle, Makenzie (Cody) Brundage, and Trinity Couch (Logan Tade). Elaine had eight great-grandchildren; Kaylin and Finley Billington, Molly, Chaney and Daniel Hahs, Trik and Krae Hinkle, and Elsie Brundage. Also surviving is one sister, Elinor (Mack) Ayers and one brother-in-law, Robert (Bonita) Couch.

Elaine was born south of Sticklerville and attended Hickory Grove Grade School through 4th grade. She then attended Green City Schools until her graduation in 1953. She married Tommy shortly after graduation, and they moved to Kansas City for a short time. They returned to the area and eventually bought a farm south of Green City and raised their family. They moved to the edge of Green Castle in 1979.

Elaine was an accomplished seamstress, an active 4-H leader, and a staunch Republican. She loved to talk politics. She worked in the Sullivan County Courthouse for many years in the collector's office. She was later employed at the Farmers Bank in Green City.

Elaine had a beautiful soprano voice and sang for many years in a trio with Russell Pigg and Helen Darr. They were well known in the area!

Elaine considered her children and grandchildren as her greatest accomplishment in life. She loved them all unconditionally.

Elaine was a faithful Christian woman who raised her children in the church. She read her Bible daily. She was a member of the Green City Baptist Church for years but was a member of the Yellow Creek Baptist Church at the time of her death.
